Alan, I too was diagnosed with TM 2 years ago and have done my own research. No doctor will ever agree with me, but I believe my TM was caused by Aspartame poisoning. I have never heard or read of another person who thought / experienced this as well. Ever since I was about 9 I started drinking Diet Pepsi, loved it and became addicted to it. By age 27, I would go through it like the Pepsi plant was gonna shut down. I took a 6 pack of Diet Pepsi to work with me every day and drank them all within my 6-8 hour shift. Lot's of story skipped, I have been diagnosed with TM too and since my onset I have cut out all sugar free, diet, anything, and have regained a good portion of mobility, but still fighting with what I have lost due to my TM. I have been searching for someone to make this comparison as well. Would love to talk more about your onset and how it TM has effected you.

i know this article is 2 years old but i'm amazed by this entire website. Within the past 4-5 months i've been delberately trying to cut down on sugars and different fatty foods and replacing them with 'fat-free/low cal' substitutes. Between MGD Beer and Low cal Sodas and sweetner in my coffee i thought i was doing the right thing. I'm young and in good shape. I was recently diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis and could only trace any cause back to Aspartame! Having ignored some vertigo, headaches and insomnia this all adds up now. Thankfully, i'm dong very well now, but still have some more work to do through physical fitness. Anybody else who has experienced TM, please feel free to contact me. Let's get rid of Aspartame!
